“MOH Going for Clean Energy”
The Cook Islands Ministry of Health (Te Marae Ora) is introducing the Pioneer ULV Electrical Mister (Supplier Key Industries, New Zealand) in it Vector Control Service Program to control mosquitoes and other household pests.
These spraying equipment runs on electricity (clean energy) which is stored in a 24 volt battery installed on the machine and after 6 hours of usage it can be recharge again on a normal power plug or from the cigarette lighter in a Ute or pick up ready for the next round of use.
It also reduces the emission of carbon mono dioxide a noxious poisonous gas into the atmosphere and at the same time reduces noise problem especially when using them in the early morning or late evening when most people are sleeping.
The conventional spraying mist blower’s that has been used by MOH runs on fossil fuel, petrol, engine oil and two stroke oil which is believed to be a contributing factor to Climate Change.
Changing these fossil fuel spraying equipment to the clean energy type as shown below is part of Te Marae Ora’s support to the Government Policy on Renewable Energy.
Finally, in 2008 MOH has replaced the non-organic, toxic pesticides (Malathion, resclin, baygon) to the environmental friendly organic substance (key pyrethrum) which will be used with the electric mister throughout the country.
