‘All Hands on Deck’ is the title of this years’ annual Biosecurity week, which is running from 22-26 July 2019. Key Industries, who is one of the sponsors of NETS2019, will have a team of representatives attending and presenting at the conference held in Tauranga this year. The session will run in conjunction with Auckland Council and is all about Argentine ants and the outstanding work done on Kawau Island, Vivian Bay to eradicate them.
What is the week all about? “‘Biosecurity’ means protection from the risks posed by organisms to the economy, environment and people’s health, through exclusion, eradication and control procedures, actions and activities.” – NZ Biosecurity Institute
It is all about awareness, what each sector does, how it fits together in the big picture, and what you can do to make a difference.
Educating the next generation is an essential part of the continuity of protecting New Zealand from pests. Have a look at the exciting school projects available from NZ Biosecurity Institute website
